The Ultimate Guide to Permanent Makeup: Microblading Brows

It 2020, so unless been living under a rock, you've likely heard the term, ‘microblading’.

But, if you do in fact live under a rock, my apologizes, lemme ‘fill’ you in (see what I did there?)

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo technique that creates hair like strokes resulting in naturally fuller well defined brows.

Where did Microblading come from?

Although only recently popular in North America around 2010, Microblading can be traced back about 25 years in Asia. If fact, in Asian culture the techniques of Microblading can be traced back thousands of years.

Microblading has been called may different names over the years, micro-stroking, feather tattooing, feathering, and hair-stroking,making it hard to truly trace its history.

Sometimes called all names lead to the same brow treatment.

How does it work?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent eyebrow embroidery that will enhance the look of your eyebrows. Pretty vague right?

To break it down, microblading creates small ‘hair-like’ incisions while depositing pigment into your skin.

Microblading is done with a disposable hand held scalpel; the device contains a collection of 10 to 16 fine needles in the shape of a blade.

To deposit pigment, the technician presses the instrument on to the skin and lightly applies pressure, the tiny, fine-point needles then make an incision. Each incision, replicates real hair. The end result looks nearly identical to natural hair patterns.

Who does it work for?

Clients ideal for microblading are those with normal to dry skin. With a hand held tool, the pigment doesn’t go as deep therefore the retention might not be as great if done on a client with oily skin.

How long does it last?

Every technician will tell you a different time line. The truth is, effects vary from individual to individual. While brows can last up to a year, BraveGirl prefers to under promise and over deliver.

After your 4-6 week appointment, microbladed brows should last a minimum of six months before needing a touch up and then, if touched up regularly a client may get up to two years.

How much does it Cost?

Upon a quick Google search, we discovered that microblading in Calgary can cost anywhere from $150 to $900 per a session, however BraveGirl’s mission is to make beauty affordable, which is why our microblading service is only $175 plus GST.

This includes a free touchup between four to six weeks after your appointment.
